This Week in Astrology — New Moon in Capricorn (2018)

On January 16th, 2018 we will be experiencing a New Moon in Capricorn.  The New Moon occurs when the Sun and the Moon come into conjunction.  The New Moon represents the ending of one cycle and the beginning of another.  The New Moon phase represents the beginning of the moon cycle, a time to set intentions.

The Learning Triangle

Be careful what you wish for.  This  New Moon squares Uranus in Aries and sextiles Jupiter and Mars in Scorpio, forming a Learning Triangle.  A learning triangle is an event or a change that aligns with your deeper desires thus teaching you something deeper about yourself.  The question that comes up in this new moon when setting our intentions is where can we make our lives simpler.  Where are we making our lives complicated?  We have gotten used to certain deficiencies whether it be money or lack of love, we have incorporated these deficiencies into our personality and surroundings.  The deficiency is causing a conflict, so with this new moon how can we avoid some of this conflict that comes about due to lack of love or finances.

Capricorn represents a point where we can evaluate our growth and also a point where we can set new goals.   Capricorn is an earth sign, the earth represents your physical body, so one must physically align with his mental, emotional, and vital bodies.  Having some sort of direction or purpose is paramount.  There are countless individuals that can learn from your story, find your voice so they can hear you.  Don’t be afraid to set goals and reevaluate how far you have come spiritually in 2017.  Create new goals for 2018.

Capricorn during this New Moon has six planets within its constellation.  This means that a lot of Capricornian energy will be highlighted during this transit.  Qualities like effort, energy, goal setting, accomplishment, and endurance.  The Sun will be conjunct Venus and the Moon, highlighting your emotional connection to love and money.   Pluto, Mercury, and Saturn are bringing messages on what areas do you want to focus and concentrate on during this time.  This focus and concentration are ushering in wealth and success.

This New Moon Squares Uranus, bringing with it changes and adjustments we must cope with.  When you do not prepare for or initiate change then one must struggle with change.  When we learn to accept change as a part of life, we begin to understand our transformation and the transformation of others.  The other reality of this change is that your goals and intentions are not aligned with your present situation.  Uranus is going to make that change.

This New Moon is also supported by a Sextile to Jupiter and Mars in Scorpio.  The Mutual interest is between your self and your unconscious natures.  The inner saboteur must be addressed when discussing intentions.  When we don’t address it and try to suppress it there is no way we can properly manifest.  The inner saboteur will always be there ready to cause disruption of our goals.  This sextile we can find out how to be satisfied in areas we rarely find satisfaction due to the inner saboteur.

Whether it is money, love, or a combination of both, it is not wise to imagine your disparity is a fact of life and everyone likes you suffers the same way.  That is not true, one must learn how to overcome the disparities in his life to have a full and healthy life.  There are plenty of people just like you abundant and prosperous.  The question is now, what changes are you ready to make or accept.  Allow the routine to be broken up and allow your desires to move closer to you.  That is why it is called a Learning Triangle.

Orisha of the Week: Yemu (Yemowo, Yembo)

The New Moon ushers in the Energy of Yemu, the mother of all the Orishas. Yemu is a composite deity, combining the energy of Yemoja and Obatala.  The powers will be awakening and eliminating the victim consciousness within yourself.  Tapping into your immortal soul energy that is likened to you being the victor.  Yemu is not some passive feminine mother figure.  The woman has been reduced to that of just a passive nurturing figure.  In African thought, the woman is equal to the man in all things as far as warfare, aggression, and protection.  Your spiritual mother is the holder of your spiritual gifts but she will not simply give them to you because you ask or your rent is late.  There are things you must do.  Yemu is Yemoja’s primal aspect.  Just like Olukun is Yemoja’s deeper aspect, Yemu is her base.  A level of purity and clarity can be accessed now in regards to your purpose and true self.

It was at this time Obatala renamed his Obini from Yembo to Yemaya ( furious mother), Yemaya’s fury became too great no one in the kingdom could calm her and it is only Obatala himself that keeps her in control.
