This Week in Astrology — Solar Eclipse in Aquarius (2018)

Awakening you to the Archetypal Movement during the week ahead.  The purpose of this blog is to make you aware of the energy available astrologically, for the purpose of spiritual and personal development.

On February 15th, 2018 a partial solar eclipse will take place on the planet.  A solar eclipse is when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, thereby totally or partly obscuring the image of the sun for a viewer on Earth.  A Solar Eclipse is a New Moon and with any New Moon, this is a time for setting intentions and new beginnings. The Solar Eclipse is a New Moon with additional power.  So in this article, we will discuss the transits that will be happening during this Solar Eclipse cycle and some things we can do to prepare for it.

New Moon in Aquarius

A New Moon is when the Sun and the Moon are conjunct, this New Moon is in the Constellation of Aquarius.  To fully understand this transit we have to fully examine the sign of Aquarius and what it means.  Aquarius is ruled by the planet Uranus, it is an Air sign, it promotes originality unpredictability.  Themes during an Aquarius transit will be around surrendering, liberation, and freedom.  The Sun and the Moon represent who you are personally and how you are feeling.  A New Moon is a perfect time to calibrate how you feel with who you are so you can live a more authentic life.  We have an inner and outer life, this New Moon cycle is a perfect time to align those lives so that we can express ourselves in truth.  Like any New Moon, the Solar Eclipse is a time for setting intentions and using the energy available to bring about a personal transformation. With any Solar Eclipse New Moon, this is the ending and beginning of a new and old cycle.

A deeper understanding of this time we are living in will give you the peace of mind needed to move forward.  We are living in a time called the Aquarian Age, our central sun is approaching this constellation, so with each passing year, we get closer to the full realization of the age.  The Aquarian Age represents humanity’s realization of their essential unity, how to be apart of the collective, as well as being an original person.  Freedom is a theme of the Aquarian Age, so to fully get free you will have to see where you are imprisoned and free yourself.

Aquarius is ruled by Uranus and this New Moon is additionally aided by a sextile to Uranus in Aries, adding more energy around the possibility for change and unexpected circumstances.  If you use this energy to reflect a changed person and are focused on your goals, you will be propelled to heights once thought unimaginable.  On the contrary, if one is struggling with change, this will be a rough transit based on missed opportunities and likely regret.  If one recognizes that change is supreme one will likely flourish through our current Eclipse Cycle.

This New Moon Solar Eclipse will square Jupiter in Scorpio, which will give us all an opportunity to overcome some major obstacles.   Jupiter in Scorpio is a light in the darkness.  Do you like what you see? Are you willing to change the things you do not like?  This is not a time for doom and gloom, this is an opportunity to make major changes.  It is a matter of perspective, yet there will be a large amount of energy available to actually overcome those obstacles.

“Where Jupiter in Libra was about working through our relationship with the outside world and balancing our inner work to find the greatest expansion of ourselves. Jupiter in Scorpio looks to bring optimism in our darker expressions to bring about expansion through transformation.”

New Moon in Aquarius (1)

During this New Moon, Mars will be Aspected by Neptune in Pisces and North Node in Leo.  Mars is in the Constellation of Sagittarius energizing exploration, adventure, optimism, and faith.  Actions are focused on the future and the energy will be available to make changes for the better.  Mars trine the North Node doubles down on this optimistic view of the future, it does not matter where you are in the present.  With a square to Neptune, it is important for the individual to be focused on a real result, rather than a fantasy.

The Shango Eclipse

Aquarius is associated with change, rebellion, and disruption all themes that reflect Shango, the warrior Orisha of thunder, lightning, and fire.  Shango is known for working miracles.  Shango also rules over friends and associations, how people view you and receive you.  High Shango energy means you are well received and have a high sexual energy.  Shango also has dominion in the astrology transit of Mars in Sagittarius where energy and focus come together for a beautiful dance.  Dancing is one of Shango’s main characteristics.

Shango & Oya

This New Moon will be sextile Uranus, inviting Shango(New Moon in Aquarius) and Oya(Uranus in Aries) to once again unite to bring a major change in the individual.  “Oya is the favorite wife of Shango, the only wife who remained true to him until the end, leaving Oyo with him and becoming a deity when he did. She is Goddess of the Niger River, which is called the River Oya, but she manifests herself as the strong wind that precedes a thunderstorm. When Shango wishes to fight with lightning, he sends his wife ahead of him to fight with the wind.”   Shango once had 2 wives.  Oshun who was sexually attractive.  Oba who was the perfect doting wife.  He banished both of them because he realized that is not what he wanted.  He wanted something much more, he wanted a partner, and that is what he found in Oya.  Oya gave Shango his space, she complimented him and was there for him when he needed her the same as he was for her.  Oya recognized she needed space too.  They formed a balanced and supportive relationship.

What we can take from this story, is how to find our perfect balance.  Are we living in the ideal we had as children? Have we matured to enough to create a new ideal, that fits our new viewpoint of ourselves?  We have to be honest about our needs and what we truly want in order to get it.  Peace in our lives comes from honesty.  We can be honest with others and still not be honest with ourselves, creating the illusion of wellness, Shango is trying to present you with the reality of wellness.  To get there, you must be honest with yourself.  It is imperative.   We may have reached where we have become too arrogant and settled in our ignorance to make a change with our free will, that is when Shango and Oya come through with the energy of change, whether you like it or not.
