Shango, Sango, Chango, or Xango is a diety/archetype in the Ifa, Yoruba, Santeria, and Voudoun pantheons. Literally meaning “to strike”, Shango is a masculine energy, representing the element of fire. His spiritual weapon the OSHE, a double-sided ax is used to destroy enemies. Spiritually Shango is Thunder, Lightning, Justice, Dance, and Virility. Simply Shango represents Power, creating power from the root chakra. Like starting a fire in the wilderness, the hardest part is just starting it. Once it is started and kindled, the environment sustains the fire. Just the same if you were to build energy up from the root chakra, once it rises you no longer have to start the fire but simply kindle and build your present fire. The hard part is starting. Shango’s archetype is Power on Earth. So understanding Shango is understanding your power. Once you understand your power you can use it and experience the results of it. Shango is a natural force within us. It is important to understand that when the ancestor’s transition, they do so within you, not in some obscure outer realm. The ancestors live inside of you. So working with Shango is you taking control of your existence. Becoming a leader. A warrior ready to destroy all of your enemies. Through Raising your Kundalini, building your energy from the root chakra, you destroy all known obstacles. Shango is the Orisha of Happiness.
I’m writing this October 4th, Jay-Z’s mentor Jaz-O’s birthday. Shango’s feast day is December 4th, the same as Jay-Z’s birthday. Shango and his wife Oshun gave birth to the first twins on earth the “Ibeji”. I find it odd that Jay-z and his wife Beyonce who is constantly compared to Oshun, just gave birth to twins this year. When you think about Jay-Z, whether you like him personally or not, you have to recognize the power he yields on this earth. So you can use Jay-Z as a symbol of how to embody Shango. Not to worship Jay-Z but to notice the synchronicities. Just something to think about.
Shango has many lovers, meaning he has no guilt or no shame attached to his truth. He is a dancer and loves to party. He is a King, a leader, but not afraid to have a good time. Working with Shango is about directing your desire, owning your desire, and not letting yourself become directed by another’s will. Shango is a great sorcerer and magician, focused on you living a full life. Shango is here to remind you that even though you have made mistakes, life still has a lot to offer you. So get up and dance. Shango is a Singular, Assertive energy. Shango can assist you with having better sex and having a more substantial relationship with your partner or new partners. By exciting your passion and energy, this incites your inner power. The opposite sex can’t resist power, especially women. As a man your problem is not women, it is you and your lack of power. Shango assists you. Shango raises your energy from Repressed to Expressed. When you can build your power to a particular level, you too will become irresistible. Shango helps us understand our personal magnetism, excites our passions, and increases our stamina(to please the ladies).
To work magic effectively one must work himself into a trance. We can not reach our magical potential through the process of regular thinking. To be able to focus one’s mind and its ability to concentrate is primary.
You can reach a trance state by laying completely motionless. By laying completely still, not moving a muscle. Not letting your thoughts run off into long trains of thoughts, not panicking about if you left the stove on. Just simply observing yourself and relaxing your body. Whenever you have free time make it a practice to just stay motionless. Then the question arises, what to do with our mind? You begin to direct your mind to your breathing, focusing on the inhale and the exhale. Begin to slow your breathing down and breathe as needed.
The focus is sustained thought towards a particular object. So to do this you have to let go of a lot of shit. To properly reach the level of magick to alter your known universe you have to learn to detach yourself from the waking world. It doesn’t mean you lack empathy or are heartless, it means to properly and effectively do magick you have to focus a majority of your energy on one thing. So by meditating, lying still, and focusing on your breath may ease your mind, it most certainly won’t get you to your magical potential. In this journey, you are always required to go deeper and reach a higher level. No one is a master yet we all are masters. So the meditation is preparing you by establishing a trance state. The ability to focus on a particular sigil, or mantra within the mind with relentless pursuit will determine the results of our magical affair.
The goal is to transform our regular mind into a magical mind. We are in the process of completely restructuring our mind. Changing our regular mind to a magical consciousness is our Great Work (Magnum Opus). From one way of looking at the world to a completely different way. The art of using our will to restructure our mind.
Within the realms of consciousness, you realize the duality of this world, yet it doesn’t take you out of your flow. We know that joy/sorrow, up/down, good/bad, guilt/freedom, and quiet/loud are just two sides of the same pole. Whatever we experience throughout the duality of the world is just an indication and a realization. So our experience becomes different from others, we are learning to control OUR mind. We are shifting it from reactive to proactive. We recognize the world but we don’t care. Developing an objective point of view instead of a subjective point of view. Religion has us in a state of searching for one polarity over the other. Feel good over bad, the reason you are sad is that you are doing something wrong, you’re a sinner. When the reality is that the darkness is necessary to understand light, being cold helps you to appreciate and understand warmth. See it is only an indication and a realization of the opposite polarity.
We should investigate the emotion of laughter as a concept. The spirit is that of pure joy and amusement. To look at life through inquisition and introspection, we can always find the humor in things. Not with the regular human mind that was given to us, but with the cultivated conscious/magical mind, this is where we find the humor. All those illusions and tricks played on us, by us. There was never any wrong done to us by others, we have been in control the whole time. You are playing the joke on you, so if you don’t get the joke, then that is due to your lack of understanding of your own self. To laugh inwardly at all things is key. The Laughing Buddha
Delete a habit in place for a new one. For example, stop smoking and replace it with working out. Let this practice be the barometer for your magical pursuit. Change things that you always wanted to change and replace them with things you always wanted to do. Creating an instable environment for chaos energy to take the form of miracles in your life.
Keeping it Conscious is an informative web series, a conscious news program highlighting the individual. We take a look at topics, ideas, news stories and put them through the scope of spirituality, occult thought, and personal power. In this episode, we will discuss the personal ritual and how to use it to our personal advantage.
We are going to look at the concept of ritual, outside the religious and social context. We are looking at the concept of ritual on a personal level. Instead of being a character in someone else’s story, create your own. By using your own thoughts and actions at a cause level. Developing your own mind’s eye/inner vision is all that matters. Who could reach you, better than you? Any ritual you perform should be a personal expression of your personal desires.
One of the purposes of the ritual is to interact with your subconscious mind. The reason for this is because we know that this is where the real magic in our life occurs. If we can impact the subconscious then we can impact our lives. Honestly, we do it whether we know it or not. Part of the ritual is the habits we keep. Ritual and Habit are synonyms and both have religious etymologies. So to say, instead of doing the unconscious ritual called the habit, let us focus on the deliberate ritual. The subconscious mind is receptive to symbols and the art of symbology. Contemplate every symbol in the ritual, think about what it means, and what you are doing with it. Every cause has an effect, so the symbols represent a cause and effect, first in your mind, and then what you would like to manifest. Now we discuss the types of rituals.
Your rituals, like any movie, play, or books have a beginning, middle. and an end. An opening and a closing. In between the opening and the closing is the rite or the ritual. You generally want to deal with the four elemental forces earth, water, air, and fire. You want to satisfy all five of your senses with sensory imagery that is purposeful to the results of the ritual. This can be how long or how short you’d like, you can dance, meditate, chant, talk, have sex even. Then you close the ceremony and go about your life. Do this as often as you’d like. Next, we will talk some of the types of rituals we can partake in.
Dedication rites where we empower, charge, bless or activate special items and talismans. When we were certain charms and jewelry, we may want to charge them with a special intention like: get the job, fall in love with me, win at the casino, etc. Dedication rites can power up our items as we see fit.
Most people think someone else has to initiate them into a group, mystery school, or secret society. I tell you this there is no greater secret than the mystery of your being and the only one that can initiate you into that mystery school is you. Initiation means to start. Why not start the path to self-discovery? You can use an initiation ritual to figure out your true potential in this existence on this planet. It’s important to use symbology because the symbols act as a bridge, from your conscious mind to your subconscious mind. So setting up and planning the ritual based upon the things that vibrate with you on an emotional high. If you not feeling the ritual, you won’t feel the results. Once again, our focus is to impact the subconscious mind because that is where change happens. We use our logical mind as we plan and prepare for the ritual. While we are in the ritual we let the emotions flow from us and power the ritual through. The trust of using and stimulating all of your senses gives you the feeling of bliss and trance, allowing you to tap into your innermost. Your emotions provide the ambiance for the ritual. By performing chanting, mantras, or music playing stimulates your hearing, keeping you present in the work.
Take for instance the club. The club is a ritual. It has dancing, music, low lights, alcohol to induce trance and bliss, perfume and cologne, the recipe for a perfect ritual. Percocet. Molly. Percocet.
Now we take a look at the elements and why they are important. Fire is the energy we need when we want to clear a path when we want to attack when we want to induce passion in ourselves or others. Fire means to you what it means to you. Air is invisible but important, it is our words and thoughts, our energy. Air means to you what it means to you. Water is needed for fertility, water is the womb, water is how you feel. Water means to you what it means to you. Earth is the material world, the manifested desire, from passion, love, and dedication. Earth shows up to you how it shows up. As for the purpose of the ritual, it is suggested to incorporate all four elements, because when combined they equal the fifth element, spirit.
The ritual is designed to be a personal expression of an intention. Who doesn’t want love, money, and success? Why don’t we all get it? if it is true we all have our own source and we are the only ones who can activate it, then it is up to us to tap into our own power.
